Instagram is rolling out a new Remix feature for Reels. It’s similar to TikTok’s Duets feature , which allows users to interact with another person’s video, and create a remix with the tools.

Instagram took to Twitter to announce the feature, saying “Now you can use the Remix feature in Reels to create your own reel next to one that already exists. Whether you’re capturing your reaction, responding to friends, or bringing your own magic to trends, Remix is another way to collab on Instagram.”

Instagram introduced Reels, the short-format video feature in India in July last year following TikTok’s ban in the country.

How to remix a reel?

The remix option is available in the menu that can be accessed by tapping on the three-dotted icon on a Reel. Among the options available there’s one that says ‘Remix This Reel’.

Instagram will place the recorded Reel on the right corner and let you see your own recording on the left side.

Users can control the volume of the original audio, change background score, and use other editing tools available in the app.

Hit the Record button to start recording your Remix.

The new Reels feature will be enabled by default for every new reel a user tries to make. To remix their old reels, the user has to enable the feature manually.

Open the reel, tap on the three dots again and then choose the “Enable Remixing”

These remixed Reels will show up alongside all the other Instagram Reels on the Reels Tab in your profile.

Now, if you want to remix someone else’s Reel, you have to ask them to enable remixing.

Also, you can turn off Remix at any point in time for all Reels from the Settings menu or do it individually for a particular reel by clicking on the three-dot menu and turning it off.

Instagram said that the feature has started rolling out. Reels allows you to record videos up to 30 seconds long.
